Shami
has a painting in the Utah Watercolor Society's 2-Star Member Show at the 16th
Street Gallery in Salt Lake City, through the 20th of March.Shami also plans
to be at Salt Lake City's Avenue's Street Fair in September of 2004.
Shami
will be exhibiting her paintings and drawings at Pioneer Theater's Loge Gallery
in Salt Lake City, March 23- April 10th, 2005 during the staging of the play
Amadeus at the theater.
Shami
is also an avid potter. She has a pottery studio in her home and primarily makes
wheel-thrown pots. Mugs and bowls are some of her favorite things to create! She
particularly loves carving her pots with the stylized patterns she uses in her
drawings and paintings. Though she has yet to create pots with elephants on them!
Shami
also makes beaded jewelry. She collects gemstone, glass, silver, copper and all
kinds of other types of beads from all over the world, and creates unique pieces
of jewelry from them. She also makes wirework jewelry from hand-twisted metal
creations of silver or copper. As in her paintings and pottery, color plays an
important role in her jewelry. Her jewelry ranges from colorful chunky ethnic
designs to extremely delicate pieces. Shami designs unique creations reminiscent
of art from the Far East, Egypt and Africa.
HONORS
Shami
has won an Award of Excellence for her painting "Dreams
of Summer" at the Utah Watercolor Society's 2002 Spring Show. Shami has
also had several paintings juried into every UWS exhibit since she joined the
society in April 2002. She was nominated to be on the Utah Watercolor society
board in Fall of 2002 as assistant to the Shows Person, and currently functions
as Public Relations person for the society.
